Hello, thanks for visiting my website

THE STORY

I started painting on silk as a hobby, something creative to do after work, but it quite quickly became more than just a pastime and I have been fascinated by the medium ever since. My first attempts were perhaps rather clumsy but I persevered and found that people were rather happy to receive them as presents and later wanted to buy my creations.

From the hundreds of scarves I have made now perhaps some have become favourite, cherished items. I know of some that have been passed on to the next generation to enjoy and care for.

Over the years I have experimented to find the best techniques that allow me to express my ideas and produce a style that is unique.

Hand painted silk scarf being created

My work is inspired by my love of nature and the amazing beauty of my country. My main aim with silk paintings is to create pieces that capture the atmosphere and unique colours of Scotland's landscapes.

Each silk painting I do is a true original made with care and love. Although I may occasionally repeat a design idea my method of working ensures that each piece is very individual.

I use 100% pure silks and cold water fibre reactive dyes, and sometimes also silk paints and natural botanical dyes. I have also recently started to experiment with cotton and linen. As with all handmade items my silks and other fabrics have their own character and quirks. Each one is unique and really quite special.

At the moment I use cold water dyes and some heat set silk paints. I have detailed some of my methods on the techniques page.

INSPIRATION

My work follows the pattern of my life and reflects the things I am interested in, the experiences I have and the places I spend time in. I use my camera as my sketchbook and aid to my memory and some favourite images can be seen on the Inspiration page.

I offer free standard delivery within the UK

The silk is wrapped in crisp white tissue paper and comes in a simple card box tied with ribbon. Gift wrapping can be provided if requested.

All items are protectively packaged for posting and I try to recycle as much outer packaging as I can.

Care of Silk

Silk is a luxurious fabric and with care your silk scarf should last for generations, and perhaps become a precious heirloom.

Silk scarves should be carefully hand washed in cool to tepid water with a little mild soap if necessary. Rinse in plenty clear water and then lay flat between clean towels to soak up the water,  then iron with a cool temperature until dry and the sheen has been restored.

Silk paintings and greetings cards that have been framed should be treated like watercolour paintings. They should not be allowed to get wet or be in a humid atmosphere, or hung in direct bright light.
