Every little bit
Hand painted
Every thing is handmade, each piece of silk has been painted or dyed by myself, sometimes fairly quickly, often over several days. The time and complexity of some of the processes is reflected in the price of individual items.
The mixing of the colours, the concentration to paint, the strokes of the brush, the unexpected reactions of dye and silk, the mindfulness and time needed - that is what I love
I just wanted to paint and create things and allow people to find and enjoy them.
Using Less
These are some of the things that I have introduced into my creative practice to have less impact, to be more eco friendly and sustainable
- using less paper products in general and recycling our weekly newspaper to use when designing and stencilling my scarves.
- sourcing thread, old jewellery, secondhand haberdashery, fabrics from local markets and pre owned sales
- reducing dye wastage by careful planning
- gradually moving towards natural dyes
- sourcing sustainable packaging for products and recycling outer packaging extensively
- reduced use of electricity and water overall - heating, lighting, ironing, use of hairdrier all dramatically cut
- increased use of natural light
- minimal new supplies bought
- extensive recycling and upcycling of past work - bringing new life to old projects
- working more thoughtfully to produce quality items
