Winter has arrived
Winter certainly has arrived and walking in the hills at this time of year takes more considerationIt seems that only a few weeks ago I was still in my summer jacket. Now insulation is the key to the enjoyment I get from a day's outing in the mountains. When the days are shorter and the weather hard to deal with, I do sometimes question why I love it so much. But even on a relatively short walk the rewards can be amazing.
I always take my SLR on my walks and also a long telephoto lens. some days they don't make it out of the waterproof bag for more than a couple of shots and theyfeel heavy and cumbersome. But if it's dry having the camera ready for anything I might come across is really good fun. I am not a great photographer but occasionally I get lucky and capture something I am pleased with, or an image that will help me identify a bird or plant.
The images shown here come from a walk mostly done in a misty, wet and very cold cloud. The water in my bottle formed into slushy ice and it was a relief to come down from the icy freezing stiff breeze.
It's a real priveledge to walk in such a country, Scotland is incredibly beautiful.
The days out are so good for the soul in this crazy world - the sense of space always amazes me when I am in the hills, and those beautiful landscapes and their restoration and care are where my inspiration comes from.
